Natural Building Experience 2019

In the spring of 2019, we started a project that would send us off into a whole new direction- The Treichlers Project.  Surely one of the few, if not only, permitted Light Straw-Clay room remodels in PA this year.  In case you don't know... Light Straw-Clay is a framework filled with straw that's been coated with slip, made from clay and water.  The interior of the walls were finished with clay plaster (sand mixed with clay from the job site) and the exterior was coated with lime plaster. These natural materials allow for an insulated enclosure while maintaining great breathability, all without the petrochemical energy filled products usually used in construction, like polystyrene and fiberglass insulation, and drywall.   While there were materials used in the building process that did require considerable fossil fuel input (concrete/mortar, CMUs, rock wool insulation, LVLs), we feel like this project was a step in the right direction to reducing our total carbon footprint.  Even the non-kiln dried wall framing lumber came from a local mill.  With support from the Natural Builders Guild of the Lehigh Valley and the Alliance for Sustainable Communities, Lehigh Valley, this project represents the growth of a community that's willing to come together for ethical building practices with respect to our planet.

We've used Paul for several jobs over the years, both big and small. We've always been happy with how meticulous he is and the fact that the job is done correctly. We'd recommend him to anyone.  Summre P

"We had a great experience with JPT Contracting for our recent bathroom remodel which lasted about two weeks. From the start, Paul was friendly, courteous and customer-focused. He was very upfront about issues he encountered and tried to make the process very smooth. The quality of the work he performed was excellent and the tile work looks fabulous! We have been passing out his cards because it's tough to find a gem of a contractor. He gets our highest recommendation!"

The end of Nov the wind ripped apart some of the siding from the front & side of my garage and the door leading into the garage. I had interviewed several contractors already, and explained to Mr Thiessen I was thinking of going with another contractor. Going with another contractor would have been the biggest mistake I could have made.  I believe divine intervention sent Mr Thiessen to do this job.I met with him on Nov 30th, 2014 and he completed the job on Dec 2nd, 2014. Exceptional workmanship! Mr. Thiessen is very customer oriented, friendly, polite, the work he did is quality at a very fair price. I am so impressed with his workmanship I am telling my friends, some of my neighbors this man is Heaven sent. He exudes trust, experience, a caring attitude, and pride in a job exceptionally done!!! He is awesome, you want a job well done call Paul Thiessen / JPT Contracting you won't regret it...!!!"   Dorothy W

Paul Thiessen is an artist as well as an artisan, a craftsman as well as a contractor, a businessman with music in his soul, as well as in his fingers, and above all else, a joy to work with. We count on him for all of our alterations and all the repairs that an old house in Bethlehem's Historic District needs, confident in his ability to do it right.

Paul Thiessen's remodel of my kitchen is beautiful, professional, and economical. I get so many compliments on the custom cabinets and shelving. Paul used several reclaimed items that added charm to my 1920s abode. I highly recommend his work!
